Clear Benefits Of Invisalign For Your Smile

Being an adult with crooked teeth isn’t much fun.
When you are aware of your misaligned teeth, then you also may become more aware of how straight other people’s teeth are. Many of the people you encounter have undergone some kind of orthodontic treatment or cosmetic dentistry.
Very few people have naturally perfect teeth when their permanent teeth emerge from their gums.
However, there’s a decent chance that Invisalign, which is available at Oregon Smile Care Center, could help you transform your smile. To find out, schedule a consultation at our dentist office in Salem, OR.
Invisalign Is Invisible
If we are being completely honest, the aligners are not completely invisible. You do need to be able to see them so you can put them on, after all.
When they are placed over your teeth, however, most people won’t realize you are wearing anything.
The aligners are made of a transparent plastic. Each aligner is computer designed for your teeth. Each step of the way, your aligners are custom-made to fit discreetly over your teeth while they keep your teeth moving closer to their final, straight position.
For adults and some teens, this is a big advantage over braces. If you don’t want to call attention to your orthodontic treatment, Invisalign may be the perfect option for you.
Invisalign Is Removable
This is something you absolutely will not be able to do with braces.
People with braces have to wear their brackets and wires 24 hours a day, every day, until their treatment is complete.
To get the maximum benefit from Invisalign, you need to wear your aligners 22 hours each day. That’s two hours every day when you can take your aligner out.
This is great for you whenever you want to grab something to eat or you need to brush and floss your teeth. By removing your aligners, you can eat all the foods that you love.
You won’t have to worry about food getting caught in your braces, or worse, causing your brackets to come loose or our wires to break. This is why people with braces are advised to avoid certain foods, and it also leads into our next reason for liking Invisalign.
Invisalign Is Comfortable
Braces are uncomfortable. There’s really no way around that. When people first get them, braces can cause soreness. Each time those braces are adjusted, the soreness can return for a few days.
Braces also can create other problems. Some people find the brackets scratchy on inside of their mouths.
And if you should break a wire, you could feel it poking into your lips, cheeks, or gums.
Those are issues you won’t have to worry about with Invisalign. Each aligner is made of a piece of smooth plastic. There are not scratchy edges. There are no small parts that can break and poke into the soft tissue of your mouth.
You will feel some gentle pressure when you first change from one aligner to another, but overall, it is a more comfortable experience than you would have with braces.
Invisalign Is a Time-Saver
Let’s assume that none of the other things above mattered to you.
Let’s assume you are perfectly OK with having an orthodontic treatment that is visible to everyone you meet. Let’s assume you don’t mind wearing it all day, every day, and let’s assume you don’t mind the regular discomfort.
Would you still want to get your treatment over sooner? We are guessing that you would.
The average treatment with braces takes two years to complete. This can take months or ever years longer depending on the specific alignment issues to be addressed.
With Invisalign, the average patient needs to wear the aligners for about 12 months. Again, this may vary from patient to patient, but Invisalign works in about half the time as braces.
One Final Consideration
Invisalign will work for a majority of patients who come to our office. This does not mean it will work for everyone, however, as much as we wish that it would.
You should know that Invisalign has been proven to work on bite issues (crossbite, open bites, overbites, and underbites) and on alignment problems (crooked teeth, crowded teeth, and teeth with gaps between them).
In order to find out if Invisalign will work for you, we recommend scheduling a consultation with our dentist at our office in Salem, OR. He can examine your teeth and let you know if Invisalign is right for you.
