What You Don’t Know About Invisalign [BLOG]

Welcome back to our blog!
We know we’ve spent a lot of time talking to you about Invisalign for the last couple of years. But there’s a good reason for that.
Dr. Hanson and our team at Oregon Smile Care Center specialize in helping patients get the beautiful smile they’ve always wanted. Invisalign is a highly effective choice for adults who want to finally do something about their crooked teeth without all the hassle and discomfort of traditional braces.
We’ve dedicated quite a bit of time talking about the benefits of this orthodontic solution. Today, we want to add to it with some interesting things you may not already know about Invisalign.
In the grand scheme of things, crooked teeth is a pretty common dental problem. Think back to when you were in middle and high school and how many of your friends wore braces. Maybe you even wore them at one time. It wasn’t so bad then because many of your friends were going through it with you, so your braces weren’t something that really stood out too much.
But as an adult, that’s no longer the case. It’s not as easy to walk around wearing metal braces that everyone will notice. When you’re a professional adult, braces are much more noticeable to others because there are fewer people doing it.
What’s the alternative? To just deal with a crooked smile that makes you feel insecure and self-conscious? Not if we have anything to say about it!
Here are a few things you may not know about Invisalign. We hope it will help you come closer to the straighter smile you’ve always wanted.

Invisalign Is Something Few Will Notice

It’s nobody’s business if you’re seeking medical treatment for something. The problem with metal braces, however, is that it’s not something you can hide. It’s visible. It’s out there. Everyone can see it.
It’s not as if you’ll be laughed out of a board room if you were wearing braces, but it’s still kind of embarrassing for some people to imagine. Being the only adult in the room with a mouth full of metal can make you feel self-conscious, and that’s not much better than a smile that makes you feel the same way to begin with!
Invisalign is a series of clear aligners that fit over your teeth and shift them into place over time. It’s almost impossible for people to notice unless you tell them you’re wearing it. So that’s definitely an advantage for adults.

Invisalign Is Smooth And Comfortable

Although traditional braces are incredibly effective in straightening teeth, they can be pretty uncomfortable at times. Not only do you have to deal with the tenderness and soreness from having them tightened each month, but sometimes the brackets and wires can have sharp edges that poke your lips and cheeks.
With smooth aligners, you don’t have to deal with that kind of discomfort. It also shifts your teeth into their proper position much more gently than traditional braces do. Plus, it’s much easier to keep your teeth clean when you use Invisalign because you can just remove your aligner when it’s time to eat and when you brush and floss your teeth.

Invisalign Puts You In Control

Invisalign is a good solution for people of any age who have crooked teeth, but it’s generally better for adults because they’re more likely to follow the instructions of Dr. Hanson about how long to wear the aligner each day.
It’s recommended that you wear it for about 22 hours a day. It’s certainly not the case with every teen, but younger patients tend to have other priorities and might not be as diligent with the treatment.

Invisalign Can Prevent Your Gums From Receding

Many of our patients are surprised by this one! You wouldn’t think about it, but when you’re teeth aren’t aligned properly, you could have an imbalance of pressure being distributed from one tooth to the next.
Over time, this can lead to gum recession, which has kind of a domino effect on the health of your tooth roots and your oral health overall. Invisalign helps correct misalignment and restore more balance to the pressure from biting and chewing.
